Give me pain medication

During you USMLE Step 2 CS exam you may encounter patients having acute severe pain, like a case of acute appendicitis or acute cholecystitis. In real life such patients are not given pain medication until initial evaluation is done, same is the case during the exam.

The simulated patient in such a case may ask:

"Doc I have a lot of pain give me pain medication"

Tip: Simply explain to the patient why you cant give him medication now and reassure.

So your Response should be:

Make eye contact with the patient and say

I understand that you are in a lot of pain, just give me a few minutes to find out whats wrong with you, then I will decide about giving you pain medication.
