Preparation Tips

Practice, practice and more practice is the key to success.Find smoe person like any friend or anyother person preparing for the exam. I wont recommed you to start practcing after finishig the book two times. Both should be started nearly at the same time. Start parcticing as soon as you are familier with the general pattern of the exam, the openning and transiton senteces, PAM HUGS FOSS and LIQORAAA or what ever pnemonics you are intending to use.

It is best to start your practice and build it up in front of some resident or atleast a person who has taken the exam, so that you can avoid mistakes becoming part of your reflexes.

Initially do untimed practice but later do it in a timed fashion. In your final week before the exam also include patient note writning in it. A number of standard abbreviations are permittied and are extremely useful.

Remeber it not the test of your medical knowledge but the general pattern of your patient dealing and your ablility to modify it according to differnt cases, challenging situations etc. The idea is that a physician should be confident, calm, composed and professional even in unusual situations. He should be able to handle the patient event if he doesnt know the answers to all the questions asked by the patient or family. Similar is the case in real life, while working in the ER you dont know whats coming next. It could be anything from traffic accident to abuse, psychiatric case, drug addicts, an MI or Stroke or a simple sorethroat. And thats exactly what U are going to see in the exam
