Some times during your USMLE Step 2 CS exam you may encounter depressed/ psychiatric patient who wont talk or communicate with you.
He may even avoid making an eye contact.
Tip: Dont get anxious, he was just trained to behave like that. Just repeat the few" magical" words and he will open up.
Place your hand of his shoulder and say
Mr XYZ, I understand that you are in a difficult situation. But I am here to help you.
will you share it with me? trust me we can do it together.
Tip: For mute/depressed patient you have to
1) tell him that you understand his situation
2) offer help
3) encourage to talk about his feelings
4) tell him he can trust you
5) give him hope that it will be over
