You have to ask a few questions regading the chief complaint and rule out a few major differntials (not all of them, its not a test of your medical knowledge)
Pain Questions:-
Location:- Where is it?
Intrensity:- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you grade your pain with 10
being the worst?
Quality:- How does the pain feel like
Onset:- How was its onset?, was it sudden or gradual?
(if sudden, ask)
Is it continous or intermittent?
(if intermittent)
How fequently does it come?
How long does it last?
How do you feel between the attacks?
Radiation:- Does the pain move around?
Aggravating Factors:- What makes it better?
Releiving Factors:- What makes it worst?
Assosiated Symptoms:- Do you have any associated symptoms?
